2016 WSOP sees 6,737 players register for Main Event
The World Series of Poker is a much-anticipated tournament series that takes place each year in Las Vegas at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino. Players travel from around the world to take part in various events but it is the Main Event that is most popular. For the 2016 WSOP, the Main Event has officially closed registration and a total of 6,737 players paid the $10,000 to compete.
The no-limit hold’em world championship main event saw just over 300 players more than the 2015 event, making the tournament the largest of its kind in a five year time frame. The prize pool up for grabs is a total of $63,327,800 with the winner set to earn $8 million for outlasting the large field of competitors plus a gold WSOP bracelet, and of course, bragging rights.
During the event, the top 1,011 finishers will be earning a cash prize with the minimum cash out set at $15,000. Of the three starting days, Day 1C was the largest with 4,240 entries total. This was the most players to compete in a single starting day for the Main Event in the history of the World Series of Poker.
The Main Event will continue game play for one week until next Monday when the final nine will be named. Once the November Nine is named, game play will pause until the fall when the Main Event Final Table comes back to the Rio to see who will be named the champion.
